The Deepest Station in Japan; Mysterious Atmosphere Doai station

Doai station in Gunma prefecture is the deepest station in Japan.
The mysterious atmosphere is interesting and popular among railfun especially.
The staircase has as many as 462 steps and it takes 10 minutes from platform to ticket gate!

 
 
 
 
Doai is a station of JR Jouetsu Line and 20 - 30 passengers use per day.


This is the aisle. It's like a ruin and has a unique atmosphere for railway station.


At Doai station, the platform of inbound line is on the ground, and that of outbound line is under the ground. It's because of the placement of tunnel among mountains which each line pass.



 There is no station attendant at this station. However, there is a toilet and you can use it.


This is Doai station building. You can see beautiful snow scene in winter.
It's certainly cold, but you might not feel cold because this view is very interesting.



You can reach Doai station by going to Echigo Yuzawa by Shinkansen from Tokyo station and transfer to JR Jouetsu Line.
